Woman on the left carries a wooden tray with unidentified merchandise on her head, and a pottery vessel in her right hand. The man on the right carries a large pottery jar with an unidentified liquid, and a shell container or measuring cup; he also wears a rosary around his neck. Born in Italy ca. 1740, Juliao joined the Portuguese army and traveled widely in the Portuguese empire; by the 1760s or 1770s he was in Brazil, where he died in 1811 or 1814.
