Done from a field sketch by Denham, this engraving shows hair styles, headdresses, facial scarification patterns. Top, "Native of Kasuna in Soudan"; center left, "Negress of Jacoba [Yacoba]"; center right, "Negresse of Nyffee"; lower left, "Umbuum of south Kano"; lower right, "Goobar and Zamfra." All located in present-day Northern Nigeria and Chad.
