The bottom three images are found earlier in Jean-Baptiste Labat, Nouvelle Relation de l'Afrique Occidentale (Paris, 1728); left , vol. 3, facing p. 36; center and right, vol. 2, facing pp. 311, 332. Some of these illustrations, in slightly different form, also appear in Awnsham and John Churchill, A Collection of Voyages (London, 1732; vol. 5, plate 3, p. 55) in the translation of Barbot's late 17th century account.
