Caption, "The Castle of St. George d'Elmina, one side of it" ("aan d'eene"). View from the sea. Elmina was built by the Portuguese in the 1480s; in 1637 it was taken by Dutch who held it until 1872. Bosman was an official of the Dutch West India Company and chief factor at Elmina.
