Comments
View from air, looking west. Swedes built a fort on this spot in 1655. The fort changed ownership about one-half dozen times before 1664, when a joint English and Danish force captured it from the Dutch. The English retained possession and in 1682 built a larger fort on the spot, but kept a significant portion of the original Swedish fort (see Lawrence, pp. 183-84).
