Caption, "marché aux Negres" (slave market); shows men, women, and children awaiting sale; some cooking food over open fire. Daniel Mannix, Black Cargoes (New York, 1962; after p. 146), erroneously captions this illustration as "A slave market in Martinique, early nineteenth century."
