Description:

After the horrific events at Virginia Tech on April 16, 2007, I really did not feel up to creating a upbeat, fast pace techno song, which I have done in the past and enjoy. I wanted to use what I have learned in Technosonics class to create a piece of music that paid tribute to those innocent students and professors. I also felt writing this song was a nice form of therapy for me to help me to express my feelings. In creating this song, I processed numerous loops using Soundhack, I used the MaxMSP programs, and used numerous effects in Audacity. I really wanted to use the MaxMSP programs, but the challenge was using them in a solemn song like this. I think I was able to implement the MaxMSP programs in an effective way. At the end of the piece, I used the phase vocoder in Sound Hack to time stretch the piano so it would create this peaceful and calm feeling. One of my musical influences is Hans Zimmer. Zimmer composes some of the biggest blockbuster movies in Hollywood. This remembrance piece is influenced by Zimmer?s work. Nothing can ever take back the lives that were lost that Monday morning, but through music we have the power to honor them.
