Description:

The title of my piece is ?Where Why How.? If you listen to my first three projects, you can probably tell that I love to dance and there are few things I enjoy better than a good beat. They were all pretty up tempo, so I wanted to slow it down a little for my final project. I took little bits and pieces from all the different styles and genres of music we learned about throughout the course. There are sounds from ?real life,? sounds created digitally on the computer, and even crowd noise which gives it an ambient feel. As a whole, maybe the piece does something similar to the works of Wendy Carlos, who ?brought consonance back to electronic music? (Holmes, 168). I used two different songs to create it. The first is ?Christmas Time is Here? performed by the Vince Guaraldi Trio, and the second is ?Ave Maria? played on a harp. I picked them because they are two of my favorite works and I can?t help but feel happy whenever I hear them. I kind of meant for the listener to try and envision the scene to match the sounds, and when I do it in my head it turns out kind of funny. I won?t tell you why, go listen to it yourself and tell me what you see. The second half of the song is the harp part. When I began the class, I had a very specific opinion on what I considered ?electronic music.? I guess it?s human to try and organize everything neatly, but now I see music is really fluid. So, as an ode to my mental boxes, I wanted to combine something ?traditional? and something ?modern? and see what happened. I hope you enjoy my song! -- anneba
